Tree Surgeon in Bromley › Guide
Your options once a tree has been felled.
A grinder chips the stump out to below ground level. It is usually faster and less disruptive than digging, and leaves mulch you can use. The roots stay in the ground but decay over time.
Digging a stump and its main roots out is heavier work. It may be needed if you plan to build over the area or replant in the same spot.
A stump can be left to decay naturally, but it can sprout, harbour fungus and be a trip hazard.
Ask what happens to the chippings and spoil, and what you plan to do with the space afterwards, such as turf, planting or paving.
